Frappuccino

Pencils for an illustration I may or may not finish.

One of the challenges of parenting for me is maintaining enthusiasm for creative projects. I begin with a lot of energy and excitement, but where I used to just sit down and work on something for several hours/days until it was done, I now must work in small increments, stopping and starting over and over. After stoping and starting five or six times, it feels (even if it's not true) that the art is going nowhere and I should probably just start something new.

Writing seems to be the one exception to the rule, thank goodness. And I think it's because even if I can only sit down for a half hour, I can still knock out a couple of pages and create something that, even if needs polish, still feels complete.

Sarah, I totally get it. Awesome sketch!
Wow! That's an awesome sketch, and I have to agree with writing. I write for about an hour a day. The caveat? I need to re-read a few pages to get my mind set to whatever I was thinking the previous day.

Sarah, This is SO amazing! I know how hard it can be to try to create , and somehow be a great parent. Takes LOTS more energy and focus. It helps when I see what all our colleagues are doing like yourself. This is today's inspiration to get back to scoring the latest thing, . . [Due next wk!]

It's been forever since my last visit and I am regretful for the lack of effort on my part.

You've outdone yourself over and over, with each and every new entry. And now, with these new comic book pages, I am taken out at the knees to know you're becoming and even better storyteller.

It is to say that however impressed I was with who you were as an artist, with one (long overdue) visit today, I am 100x more convinced.

Thank you for sharing. And thank you for the inspiration.

Oh, this is one of my favourite sketches you've ever done! Also totally jealous you got to see Glen Keane the other day.
I've been watching your blog for months; just thought I'd say hi! :)

One of the things that I dig most about your work is your command of line weight; not that you need my approval of your good work, but I thought I'd share compliment... thanks for keeping your work so open!

Yes, its tough when you take long breaks. I always end up getting some new ideas and forget the one that I was working on.

Be stubborn! Keep at it!!

i found your blog by mistake, i absolutely love your sketches and drawings. I draw and write too, but for me it's the exact opposite. i can finish a drawing easily; writing on the other hand i always feel i should go back and review everything or even scratch it and start from the beginning.
