The Wellington Division - Jase and Yelrah

New pages are up. Thank you for your patience. I was out of town yesterday and had no way to post this.

Yelrah is one of my favorite characters, but I suppose you wouldn't think so considering her story, particularly this week. Only a handful of sequences to go. Next week's sequence has a huge plot revelation.

Ugh, poor Yelrah, poor sprites. So many dead. and yet Jase seems to only think of saving Yelrah, or saving his own skin? After this sequence it is even harder to like Jase, since he has lead an army and numerous women and children into death and seems unwilling to die with them. I don't believe in heroism per se, but that just seems wrong. It is just weird and surreal that he and Yelrah talk about love on a battlefield strewn with corpses. Corpses of the people who fought because of the stories of freedom they told. Jase's unwillingness to die for those ideals somehow seems to suggest that he took the role of "the One" for his ego and not to protest the horrible slavery his people were entrapped in.

Thank you so much Sarah, your writing is really exceptional. It is seldom that the protagonists of a tale have such depth and such open flaws. I just love that is no blind heroism of a perfect and invincible hero, nor an easy solution to deeply rooted problems in the society you picture. War hurts and many will die and everyone suffer, which you manage to portray so well. So much fantasy out there is just a bland tale of heroism, but somehow you made something exceptional here. And - and although I am truly sorry to play the woman cart - its always nice to see that a female author manages to write such an epic fantasy tale, including a complex political background and war. I guess you countered some clichés with that alone ;-) Thank you so much for this comic; I truly wished you would have had the opportunity to polish it, finish the pages take them into print, because I really believe it would have been worth it.
I truly look forward to the end of this tale

Have been enjoying your story and your character development and of course your drawing. Sorry to see Yelrah go. Looking forward to the rest.

Yelrah was always one of my favourite characters too and it's so sad to see her go. I can't believe that the story is almost finished when there are so many plots just reaching a climax. Can't wait to see how it ends. But then I won't be able to read The Wellington Division anymore. You are an amazing author and artist and you have amazed me every week. You are an inspiration!

Thank you so much, everyone. Poor Yelrah has the worst luck of any character in this story.

As for Jase, Andra. I agree, it is pretty horrible of him to consider running away with Yelrah. Yet, I'm not sure he would be able to follow through. I think the reality of what he and Yelrah have done to the other sprites is starting to hit him and he's panicking. I believe Jase wants to save others and has a good heart, but he is not good at predicting the consequences of his actions, and when the unexpected happens (in battle and with the ladies), he responds with belligerence or grand, dramatic decisions.

Aghhhh!!! So hard to wait from week to week at this point! Love it. The humanity (/sprite-anity?) you have with your characters is just unparalleled. You have a wonderful way of writing a variety of characters and having them all feel distinct and original and real.

Thank you Jeana, and Stephen. Stephen, you are so sweet to have read this a few years ago, and still be excited to read it again. <3

I genuinely thought Yelrah was going to be the true "One." Every move the resistance ever made was because of her--Jase just kind of moved around as she directed. That was a truly great and unique dynamic you had with them and it makes this ending for them cut so much deeper. Well done.

Almost any other comic I'd be screaming "WHY?!" but in this case, it's just a few tears, because really, how else could it have turned out? You don't pull punches with your story-telling. Well done, madam.

Also...WHY?!?!?! *sob*

Thank you, Ivan. And thank you also, Manu, my husband recently pointed out that in the last few scenes I've offed nearly half the cast. :(

And that's really interesting, Truxillogical. I've always thought it was pretty sexist how all the characters just assume that the one has to be a guy. It never occurred to me that the one might be Yelrah, though. However, that would have been a really cool twist, particularly considering her history with the sprite prophets. Why else would would she be befriended by Ferin? Hmm...

And I'm sorry Tiffany! I'm glad you liked Yelrah so much. :)
