Claire, Sun and Kate

Please please please, nobody comment too specifically about the show... Stephen and I are still working our way though the DVDs and are enjoying all the little surprises :)

Had a weird Lost related dream last night, so I thought it would make for a fun sketch topic. I know the crazy talented artists at Avalanche drew a slew of awesome of Lost drawings recently (definitely check em out... you have to scroll down a little) but since none of them drew any of the female cast members I thought I'd take a stab at it. I think Claire turned out the best, and I like the Kate sketch least... although I'm not sure if it's just because the Kate drawing looks like a bizarro self-portrait to me.

Definitely spot on with Claire, and pretty close with Kate (although I know what you mean about the sketch looking too much like yourself - a problem I run into with many of the earlier commissioned portraits I used to do); I like the sketch you did of Sun but I don't think it looks like her at all. Think it's the eyes.

I did see those Avalanche pix the other day - nice ones! Especially like the Hurley one. :)

Really attractive sketches! I like the delicate line treatment you have, lovely eyes on the last one. What's Lost? Is that a show or something? Just kidding. I've never seen it, I try so hard to stay away from the TV set, I'll get completely trapped and won't get anything done. Although I get caught with VH1 crap and Food Network like nobody's business. Since everyone's on the Lost sketch kick, I thought i'd pass along another link. - www.mikewieringo.com - he's a comic illustrator and one of the nicest people around, check his site and click his blog link, he had a handful of Lost posts a couple back. Bye!

It's funny you said that about the Kate one, I probably like that one the best. Kate's seems like one of the harder ones to do a caricature of. Nice Work!

ok..now I have to follow THIS series to understand who these people are!

I should definitely watch TV more often instead of drawing all the time......

Nice sketches. I think I can pick them out from the few commercials I've seen. Therefore, they must be pretty accurate.

If they were really lost, could the wreck have been spotted on Google Earth?

Beautiful work here Sarah!

Beautifully done! I think the reason why people at Avalanche didn't do any of the girls is because women are SO HARD to caricature. Especially with women that are supposed to be beautiful, because if you start exaggerating features too much they lose the likeness. But you did an awesome job here!
I'd like to see how you would handle Natalie Portman. I tried to do a caricature of her last week because I knew she'd be very difficult. Needless to say, I ended up with a page of unrecognizable rubbish and gave up.

Thanks so much everyone! I'd like to say I avoid the TV, but I do love shows on DVD. I find it so interesting to watch several seasons of the same show consecutively, it seems more like a reading a novel to me, where as movies I'd liken to short stories.

Chris, Mike Wieringo's Lost drawings are great! I particularly like his Kate drawing, the likeness is wonderful :)

Sam, that's interesting. I weirdly find girls easier to draw and caricature. Maybe me being a girl has something to do with that, I don't know... I'm curious to try drawing Natalie Portman now. Maybe I'll make that Friday's drawing. I do think though that some people are just hard to caricature too :)
